Maya Deogun

Maya Deogun is a Sociology and Spanish major at Emory University planning to graduate in December 2023. Deogun spent the last fall semester studying abroad in Salamanca, Spain living with a host family. During the last four summers, she has worked as an outdoor educator for high school students in Colorado, the Florida Keys, Iceland, Hawaii, the Azores islands, and Greece where she fosters a growth environment for her students through spending time outside. Deogun spent her time during the pandemic interning for Representative Sherrill’s re-election campaign and fundraising for a donkey sanctuary in northern Spain. More recently, she spent time as a research assistant in Emory’s Sociology Department studying the religious socialization of Muslim immigrant children. She is currently in her second internship at The Carter Center under the Democracy Program where she works on the U.S. Elections and Zambia teams. There, she produced an independent research project surrounding race and trust in American elections. In her free time, she loves reading, playing ultimate frisbee, and running.
